Interlibrary Loan and Purchase Requests

If the library doesn't have a book or article you need, don't give up!

  1. We can get a scan of a chapter or article for you within 24 hours; just follow the instructions in the box below. (Need help? Start a chat with a librarian using the box on the left, or email Gina at GKL2@stmarys-ca.edu.)
  2. Gina can buy e-books on any topic relevant to English! Come across a book the library should have? Email Gina at GKL2@stmarys-ca.edu. New e-books, when available for library licensing, can usually be live within a week.

What if the Library doesn't have the book or article I need?

What if you want to search beyond the SMC Library's collections?

Or what if you search for a book or article in Library Search and it says SMC doesn't have it? 

 

1. In Library Search, click "search using Interlibrary Loan" to check other libraries' holdings:

2. Then, when you see the book or article you're looking for, click "Get it for me from other libraries":

3. Under "Get it from other locations," you'll see an option to have the entire book sent to you at SMC (which can take a few days, or a couple weeks), or to have an article or single chapter sent to you digitally (within 24 hours).
