Here are some tips to take you to the next level in using PsycInfo

Using the Thesaurus

The Thesaurus in PsycInfo provides you with a list of the "official" search terms used in the database. It can help you to:

  • Identify the best terms to use in your searching
  • Find other terms that you might not have thought of

It's a great way to link your research idea to the actually terminology used by researchers to describe constructs.

Try entering words that describe your variables and see what you find

 

Searching using Thesaurus Terms

For a more precise search, you can limit your search to articles that have specific Thesaurus terms.

Limit your search using the limits at the bottom of the search page

Search Results

The Full Record (Description) for the Article

From the list of results, click on the title of an article to get to the full record. This will provide you with

  • A list of the Index (Thesaurus) terms that describe the article. Make note of these as they might be useful for future searching
  • A link to the references from the article. This list can lead you to more good sources on your topic.
  • A link to articles that have cited the article. These could also be relevant to your topic.
