Finding Data Sets

For data science projects, you may need to find and use existing datasets. Different data is available from different places, freely on the web or in subscription databases. Below are some subscription sources available to SMC users.

Sage Data is a Web-based research solutions tool that provides fast and easy access to more than 14 billion data points from licensed and public domain datasets within an easy-to-use interface.

Statista is a source for statistical data. Sources include market reports, opinion research institutions, trade publications, scientific journals, and government agencies
Statistical Abstract of the U.S. This link opens in a new window
The ProQuest Statistical Abstract of the United States is the authoritative and comprehensive summary of statistics on the social, political, and economic conditions of the United States.

Passport is a global market information database examining countries, consumers, and industries. Passport offers integrated access to internationally comparable statistics, insightful market reports, and interactive visualization tools.
Mergent Online This link opens in a new window
Covers over 15,000 U.S. public companies (active and inactive) listed on the NYSE, AMEX and NASDAQ exchanges, and 20,000 non-U.S. companies (active and inactive). Also includes Mergent Horizon, a source for information on companies' products, trade names, supplier relationships.
