Resources for Bay Area Middle & High School Library Workers

This is a collection of resources that we put together for our High School Libraries Workshop participants to access and share.

Public Libraries are Free For You and Me!

Did you know...

...that as a resident of California, we ALL have the right to sign up for a library card at ANY public library in the state? If you start with an e-card application, some libraries (like Contra Costa County Library, Oakland Public Library and San Francisco Public Library) require you to come in person to exchange an e-card for a full service card and to periodically renew your full-service card. Others, like Alameda County Public Library, will mail you your full-service library card. So wherever you are visiting, as long as you have your valid California state ID, go in and sign up for a public library card. Encourage your students to do the same.

Think about this: on e-resource platforms like Libby, you can enter ALL those library cards. So. Much. Access.
