Citing and Writing

The MLA (Modern Language Association) style is most commonly used to write papers and cite sources within the liberal arts and humanities.

The MLA Handbook, 8th ed., is available in the Reference area (Ref 808.02 M699).

For SMC Library Guide to MLA and other citation styles, see Library research guide on citation styles.

CWAC: Center for Writing Across the Curriculum

Located at De La Salle Hall (next to Hagerty Lounge), 925.631.4684, www.stmarys-ca.edu/cwac. Hours are posted on their website, plus other times by appointment. Sessions are in person or by videoconference.

Writing Advisers guide their peers toward expressing ideas clearly, always weighing audience and purpose. Writers bring their assignment sheets, professor feedback, and readings in order to brainstorm ideas, revise drafts, or work on specific aspects of writing, such as grammar, citation, thesis development, organization, critical reading, or research methods. Writers may discuss any genre, including poetry, science lab reports, argument-driven research, or scholarship application letters.
