Writing: A Research Guide

Library databases can be a little tricky to use, but Google brings up a lot of sites that aren't reputable or academic. However, there's a tool that combines the scholarly content of library databases with Google's smart relevance ranking: Google Scholar.

Sometimes, articles that Google Scholar finds for you don't have the full text of the article free online.

• To show the most full text, make sure you are using the Library's Google Scholar link or add Saint Mary's College Library to your Google Scholar library links.
• And if you see a cool article or book that you can't get to through Google Scholar, copy the title and search for it in Library Search.

Now consider this: Do a search on your topic in Library Search and Google Scholar. What similarities and differences do you notice?
