IRAC

In legal writing, the IRAC (Issue, Rule, Analysis, Conclusion) method is typically used after presenting the facts of a case. It is commonly found in a legal memo's 'discussion' section or a brief's 'argument' section. Each discrete legal issue or topic within a case will have its own IRAC structure, often organized under separate sub-headings.

For example, if you address multiple legal issues, such as an affirmative defense and a necessary element of a claim, each would receive its own complete and independent IRAC discussion. This structured approach ensures clarity and thoroughness in analyzing and applying the law to the specific facts of each issue, helping to strengthen the overall argument presented in the legal document.
