To use the following strategies, in Library Search, click Advanced Search and select Library Catalog.

Then you can choose to search for particular words in just the TITLE or AUTHOR field:

Or, to find books about an author, search for the author in the SUBJECT field:

What if you search for a book in Library Search and it says SMC doesn't have it?

1. Click "expand your search" to check other libraries' holdings:

2. Then, when you see the book you're looking for, click "Get it for me from other libraries":

3. Under "Get it from other locations," you'll see an option to have the entire book sent to you at SMC (which can take a week or two), or to have a single chapter sent to you digitally (within 24 hours).
